Two decades of shipping.
Solution architect and engineering leader across web, backend, mobile, and supply-chain infrastructure — at three of the biggest names in tech, at startups, and as an independent. This is the long version; the highlights are on the projects page, and the short version is what I can do for you.
The work
WAVIISoft, LLC
My consulting practice — full-time since leaving Nordstrom in 2023: supply-chain integration, product builds, and cloud architecture, plus open-source tooling built in the open.
Repurposed, internationalized, and maintained client iOS and Android apps — including migrations for Apple’s new rules on white-labeled apps.
pr-triage (a PR triage board), loami (an embeddable backend substrate, in design), and git-heatmap (commit visualization) — under @waviisoft.
ShuffleTix, Inc.
Consumer products, co-founded and built with two co-founders.
An event ticketing service that randomized ticket orders for fair fulfillment — no more rewarding whoever refreshes fastest.
Currently in active development — more soon.
Pioneer Ridge Properties
Co-own and operate 22 apartment units across 8 multi-family properties, plus 4 vacation rental houses across 3 properties in Tennessee and Florida, managed under Pioneer Ridge Vacations. Running physical operations keeps me honest about what it means to operate systems — software or otherwise.
Nordstrom
Technical lead for a six-person engineering team — plus an offshore team — building Nordstrom’s event-driven warehouse integration, continuing the work I began there via PeloTech (below). Company-wide design reviewer and approver; acted as technical program manager, wrote the technical specifications, and moved the team from Sprint to Kanban.
Architected the event-driven system translating events between third-party warehouse systems — 22+ microservices across five environments, replacing a two-language monolith.
Supported the go-live of a new omni-channel fulfillment facility, where the integration layer had to be right on day one.
Evaluated top-tier WMS platforms for selection — vendor landscape, integration cost, reference architecture.
LIFFFT / PeloTech
Designed event-driven supply-chain solutions for Nordstrom’s omnichannel fulfillment, with a strong mentoring focus — including introducing pair programming to a skeptical team. Nordstrom hired me full-time a year in.
Event-driven integration with a third-party dropship service, architected for high availability and throughput.
Kafka Streams pipeline for events and state with a dynamic yet deterministic integration-test framework, plus middleware with dead-letter queueing and replay.
Pike13
Full-stack work on a scheduling/CRM SaaS serving businesses worldwide.
Dozens of publicly documented RESTful APIs powering the core scheduling and client-management product, plus web app work in Angular.
Co-developed white-labeled Android and iOS apps with a contract team I managed; maintained two Objective-C iOS apps — and once prototyped an iOS app in a day with React Native.
Tooling that cut release time from two hours to twenty minutes.
Amazon
Led a three-developer team on mobile advertising.
Publicly launched the Android Ads SDK — shipped into thousands of third-party apps.
Drove code coverage past 50% on a codebase where every bug shipped to someone else’s app.
Built an emulated advertising service for rapid feature development and a framework for interstitial ads; mentored two interns and conducted 190+ interviews.
Dance Your App Off LLC
Built a pre-market V1 app and backend for delivering dance video instruction — my first founder run, alongside the big-tech day jobs.
Microsoft
Eight years across Windows XP Media Center, Office, and Windows Phone — starting as a college contractor — with a reputation for low-level debugging: the person you called when the crash dump made no sense.
Architected, designed, and built the built-in email app — multi-select, list view, folder picker — and led the team that delivered conversation view.
QA for Office’s internal automation system — test design specs, a C# Message Queue monitoring tool, and debugging deep in native and managed code — after an internship stress-testing its COM interop layer.
Supported internal and external testers as a contractor: ASP.NET release-notes sites, 300+ bugs triaged, and self-built tooling — BugCopier and a real-time quality-metrics tool.
East Ridge High School
Built the school’s student discipline-tracking website and teacher intranet in classic ASP, repaired teacher machines, helped teachers bring technology into their curriculum — and taught an after-school C# programming class.
Built the state convention and competition registration website, which also assembled the awards-ceremony slide deck from contest winners for the ceremony and its live video.
Hamilton County Department of Education
Troubleshooting and repairing computer systems and network issues across the school district.
Education
University of Tennessee at Chattanooga
Wrote GPS software for a DARPA Grand Challenge autonomous vehicle — my first production system where failure meant something crashed in the physical world.
Beyond the keyboard
The non-software work that shapes how I engineer.
Ski instructor
When the lifts are running at Crystal Mountain, I teach first-timers and beginners to ski and snowboard. Breaking a complex physical skill into learnable steps for a nervous beginner is the same job as explaining an architecture to a non-technical stakeholder — and the mountain gives faster feedback.
Landlord & operator
26 rental units — 22 apartments and 4 vacation houses — mean real tenants, real maintenance, and real on-call: operating discipline no software job teaches.
Eagle Scout
Earned in 2002, along with the American Institute of Public Service Jefferson Award for community service the same year. Be prepared — it turns out that’s also the whole job in supply-chain go-lives.
